The newly appointed governor of Sudan’s West Kordofan State has urged citizens to forget the bitterness of the past and adopt forgiveness and tolerance between all communities.
Governor Abul Gaism Baraka made his remarks during a ceremony at Freedom Square in Al Fula town.
“The state is rich with abundant resources, but they have not been used due to tribal conflicts and insecurity in various areas,” he said, quoted by Sudanese News Agency (SUNA).
He said the native administration laws may be reviewed and strengthened so the administration can effectively play its role in public life.
Abul Gaism emphasised the need for the rule of law in order to control tribal feuds, saying the government is working to mend the social fabric and bring peaceful coexistence among the communities.
He also vowed to reconcile the feuding Ziyoud and Awlad Omran clans of the Misseriya so they return to their previous historic ties.
The governor announced that emergency orders have recently been reactivated in order to provide full security and stability in the state.
The top state official also commended the people of West Kordofan for defending the country.
