Akec Tong Aleu, the new governor of Warrap state, home to President Salva Kiir, returned to the state capital Kuacjok on Friday with calls on the local population to unite and work for peace and tranquility.
Aleu was speaking to supporters upon returning to the state from the national capital, Juba, where he went to take the oath of office before President Salva Kiir.
He was one of four new governors appointed earlier this month, replacing his predecessor, Nyandeng Malek. The new governor urged the locals to put partisan politics aside and focus on the agenda of the country.
Deputy Head of the parliamentary committee responsible for information and public relations, Ariec Mayar Ariech said on Friday that the new governor urged the local people to strive toward building a stronger society and be more united.
“The governor made a number of points. He made it very clear that he has no personal agenda to pursue but to deliver services to the people. He made very clear that what is important is the national interest, and he enjoined all the people to put Warrap first, not to use the opportunity given them for the pursuit of divisive politics or ethnic chauvinism,” said Ariech.
The new governor, according to the legislator, was received by different groups up arrival to the state.
