The newly appointed county commissioner for Uror in South Sudan’s Jonglei state said his priority would be to restore peace with neighbors in Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA).
Machot Gatluak Kenyjak who was appointed about two weeks ago replacing Tang Chatiem made the remarks while speaking to Radio Tamazuj over the weekend.
“Pieri, Padiek, Wickol and Tiap Payams border GPAA. So my priority will be to prepare all youths for peace with our Murle neighbors,” he said. “In the recent weeks, the security situation was worsening and we can not do anything without peace.”
The commissioner pointed out that he is prioritizing peace and reconciliation, emphasizing its necessity as a precursor for development.
Peter Gatbel Machar, the county police inspector, said they are ready to work with the new commissioner to restore peace and security and that they will only meet the commitment if they are provided with vehicles to carry out patrols.
