New UNMISS chief calls for inclusive dialogue in South Sudan

The new chief of the UN Mission in South Sudan David Shearer has called for an inclusive dialogue for all stakeholders to bring an end to the ongoing conflict across the country.

The new chief of the UN Mission in South Sudan David Shearer has called for an inclusive dialogue for all stakeholders to bring an end to the ongoing conflict across the country.

Shearer made these remarks last week during his first visit to Wau town where hundreds of citizens are sheltering due to rampant insecurity.

Shearer told the internally displaced people inside the UN camp in Wau that UNMISS will strive to bring the warring parties together for an inclusive dialogue in South Sudan.

The UNMISS head pointed out that he believes that the national dialogue called for by President Kiir would not bring the warring parties together, but it will be a starting point for the parties to implement the signed peace agreement.

He also voiced concerns over the situation of the internally displaced people inside the UN camp in Wau, saying any intransigence from both sides will cause more human suffering in South Sudan.

For their part, the conflict-displaced people in Wau called on President Kiir and rebel leader Riek Machar to solve their differences through negotiations so as to bring an end to the suffering of the people of South Sudan.
