New UN peacekeeping chief arrives in South Sudan

The new chief of the UN Mission in South Sudan Ellen Loej arrived in Juba yesterday and was received by members of the UNMISS leadership and staff.

Loej was named by Ban Ki-moon as UNMISS chief on 23 July but did not take over from the acting UNMISS head until her arrival yesterday.

She visited once briefly in August in the company of a delegation of UN Security Council member state representatives.

A Danish diplomat by profession, Loej served previously as head of the UN peacekeeping mission in Liberia from 2008 to 2012.
