Authorities in Sudan’s White Nile state say nearly 327 South Sudanese refugees have recently arrived in Um Jalala and Kuek areas.
In a Tuesday press statement, the head of the refugees’ coordinating committee Al Tayib Mohamed Abdullah said about 114 refugees have arrived in Um Jalala, whereas about 213 refugees are in Kuek.
He said numerous NGOs have visited waiting checkpoints at El Salam and Jebelain Localities.
“The country director of World Food Program (WFP) and several aid officials from the Sudanese Red Crescent, Plan Sudan and UNHCR as well as UNICEF have gone to visit waiting sites in order to assess the situation of the new arrivals,” he was quoted as saying.
Abdullah predicted a new influx of South Sudanese refugees in the coming days owing to the possibility of renewed fighting in Upper Nile State, including areas along the Upper Nile-Sudan border.
