Sudanese government warplanes carried out airstrikes on Kauda town and several nearby areas in the South Kordofan region over the weekend.
The first bombing on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. carried out by an Antonov warplane caused a fire that led to the destruction of several houses.
Local residents tried to control the blaze but it was spread by the wind and proved difficult to contain. “The incident didn’t claim any loss of human life, but it terrified citizens,” a Kauda resident said.
On the next day Sunday a Sukhoi warplane was also seen over the area for a quite period of time without dropping any bomb on Kauda town but this time targeting Heiban area, a town some few kilometers from Kauda.
The plane dropped five bombs in the attack. A witness in the area was unable to say whether there were any casualties.
Bombings in the Kauda area have caused great fear and forced many civilians to flee their homes.
For its part, the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) could not be reached for comment. Their ground forces are reported to be present near the same area.
