The management of Wau Airport in South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal announced that pavement of the third layer of their runway has been completed.
Renovation of the Wau Airport started in January this year. The airport had been receiving flights from Monday to Thursday only.
Manager Daniel Nhial said the airport will qualify to successfully land 100 tonne planes, saying the airport is ready to receive big cargo aircrafts.
He explained that a 2.5 kilometre runway established in 2013 with two layers couldn’t receive aircrafts carrying over 70 tons.
Daniel said airlines carrying passengers can now begin daily flights and that and the airport can receive flights from the Gulf countries, Sudan, and elsewhere.
He said international flights will start after the completion of the necessary arrangements with the national government to improve the economic situation in the state.
