New rules for fuel storage and sales in Darfur

The government of South Darfur state has issued a new package of regulations regarding the sale and storage of fuel.

They forbid fuel storage in homes and also increase the public transport fares in Nyala “in order to prevent any problematic that can occur as a result of these illegal practices”.

The Commissioner of Nyala, Ahmad Gah-el-Deen, said in a press statement that the regulations serve to prevent fuel businessmen from selling fuel illegally. It may only be sold with official approval by the local authorities and stored in secured warehouses.

He explained that controlling this necessary and vital commodity will lead the authorities to prosecute any offenders. They also oblige all means of public transport to convey students for half of the regular fare.

Deen further highlighted that this decision was reached after comprehensive consultations and agreement with the transportation union, the Ministry of Education and other relevant authorities.
