New police post inaugurated in Bor County

Authorities in Bor County of Jonglei State have received a new police post to help combat crimes.

Authorities in Bor County of Jonglei State have received a new police post to help combat crimes.

The facility, constructed under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS)’s Quick Impact Project to the tune of $50,000, was handed over to Bor authorities in the border town of Anyidi on Tuesday.

The state police commissioner, Major-General Joseph Mayen Akoon, told Radio Tamazuj that the facility will help them foster security in Bor and beyond.

“The area of Anyidi was deserted over the past due to insecurity. But as we speak, people are back there. Again, the area is a cattle trading market for the people of Bor and Pibor. So, we are thankful to the UNMISS for the support. This will help us achieve our mandate of fostering protecting people and their properties,” he explained.

Bor County Commissioner, Yuot Alier, said the facility will help Bor people get services, and that they will commit resources needed for its sustainability.

“Now that it has been handed over to us. We will ensure that it is operational in very few days. As soon as possible, we will send personnel there because everything is ready," he said.

For his part, Bol Deng Bol of the civil society organization Intrepid-South Sudan, welcomed the police facility, saying law and order will now be maintained in Anyidi town after a long time without security forces presence there.

He also called on the government and its partners to extend such services to the rest of Jonglei.
