The newly appointed caretaker governor of South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal state Akot Deng Akot has arrived in state capital Aweil.
Akot said his administration would improve education, health, and roads and work to contain rising food prices in the state.
He called upon the cabinet and all communities of Northern Bahr el Ghazal to work with him to achieve development for the state. Akot urged his people to forgive each other for the previous political struggle in the state.
Akot expressed appreciation for former governor and current SPLA chief of staff Paul Malong for recommending him to be the new governor. Malong retains a political position as head of the state’s SPLM party.
The new caretaker governor also urged people to support President Salva Kiir in the implementaion of the peace agreement signed last week.
Numerous citizens as well as government and United Nations officials, youth groups, women’s groups, and civil society attended Akot’s arrival ceremony.
