The new chairperson of Lakes State Youth Union (LASYU), Dut Alim, has pledged to unite the youth across the state.

Alim made the pledge following his election on Saturday after garnering 62 votes (77%) against his main rival Daniel Majur Majok, who managed 18 votes (22%). Daniel Marial Terbai was elected the secretary-general with 55 votes (22%).

“Let us support the interest of the majority,” said Alim.

He said he considered that all the eight counties of Lakes State had voted for him and would serve them without discrimination.

Alim appreciated Majok as a worthy opponent and invited him to join him in serving the youth.

Culture, Youth and Sports Minister William Koji, said that his only interest was for the youth to choose someone who would work for their welfare.

State Governor Rin Tueny Mabor said the election was the final stage of organizing his administration.

“I came in 2021 as a Governor of Lakes State and you could be asking why it took long to organize the youth in this state,” he said.

The Governor said the insecurity was high and he could not quickly reorganize the youth because of the challenge.
