The newly appointed Chief Administrator of the Greater Pibor Administrator Area (GPAA), Goal Boyoi, was sworn in on Friday.
Deputy Chief Justice John Gawech Lul administered the oath of office to the newly-appointed administrator at the presidential place in the presence of President Salva Kiir Mayardit and Murle community intellectuals and politicians.
After the swearing-in ceremony, President Kiir urged Gola to restore peace and unity in the Greater Pibor area in collaboration with the community leaders.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Presidential Affairs, Bangasi Joseph Bakosoro, urged the chief administrator to promote unity and reconciliation among the people of the Greater Pibor Administrative Area.
For his part, Chief Administrator Gola Boyoi promised to uphold unity and stability, emphasizing that peace and security are essential for development.
Gola was appointed as the chief administrator of the Greater Pibor Administrative Area by President Kiir in a decree last week to replace Lokoli Ame Bullen.
Boyoi’s appointment follows his public criticism of former deputy defense minister David Yau Yau’s decision to defect from the ruling SPLM Party to the opposition SPLM-IO.
Boyoi stepped down from the leadership of South Sudan Youth Union after the end of his five-year tenure in December last year.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Al Neelin University, Sudan.
