The newly elected speakers of Gogrial State Legislative Assembly Ariech Mayar Ariech and his deputy Anei Mawien Adhiik took oath of office today, Monday.

The two replace former speaker Atong Manyual Lual and her deputy speaker Gabino Kiir Madut who resigned last Tuesday after members of parliament threatened to impeach them claiming their terms in office had come to an end.

Mayar said his first priority will be to ensure that parliamentary quorum is maintained to ensure the house business is not interrupted.

“All MPs must attend their functions in the parliament, there is no comprise on that, it is in the conduct of business, only after the MPs are in recess they are allowed to go wherever they like to go, but when MPs are called to be in full session the MPs must be attentive for 3 months,” he said.

He added, “you can see the quorum of today we are 21 but if you can count how many members are here, some are in Juba, some are just going around here without being in parliamentary business and that one must end. We are being paid my government to do the work to the people of the state.

Mayar stressed that he will not give permission for absentia unless the reasons are clear and justifiable.
