A new community radio station was on Thursday last week launched in Duk Padiet town, Duk County of Jonglei State.

Radio Duk Padiet FM operates on 96.6 frequency.

Ajak Atem Atungjuach, the Duk Padiet Payam Administrator, told Radio Tamazuj that the new radio station seeks to promote peace messages among the communities of Jonglei.

“On Thursday, June 9, our radio station was launched. It is a peace radio station for the communities of Duk, Twic East, Ayod and Yuai,” he explained.

The county official expressed optimism that the media house will be a beacon of unity and called on partners involved to expand the coverage.

One Dukpadiet resident, Mary Manyok, said the radio station has been broadcasting health, education and peace messages, which keep her informed and called for the provision of radio sets to families for easy access.

For his part, Daniel Deng Peter, the acting station manager, said the station would be the voice for peace and reconciliation.

“The first aim is to bring peace to the communities of Duk and neighbours through changing the old way of thinking to the new way of living,” Deng said. “The construction of this station by UNDP and UNESCO with support from KOICA and Sweden started in 2019 and was completed in 2020. “

The acting station manager, however, called for the expansion of coverage.
