The UN Food and Agriculture Organization and the Ministry of Agriculture has opened a new central cold chain system in Juba to transport and maintain vaccines for livestock.

The new system is meant to help replace the previous one, much of which was destroyed in the civil war of December 2013.

FAO country representative Serge Tissot said the central cold chain will help animal vaccines reach all parts of South Sudan.

Minister of Agriculture Beda Machar called on cattle herders to periodically report livestock diseases so they can be provided with medicine.
