The South Sudan National Examinations Council (NEC) has announced it received SSP2 billion from the Ministry of Finance to begin marking the 2024 Certificate of Primary Education (CPE) exams.
The exams were conducted in November 2024, but marking was delayed due to a lack of funds.
NEC Secretary-General Simon Nyok Deng told journalists in Juba on Tuesday that marking would begin the following day.
“It is very unfortunate that the Secretariat has not been able to process the examinations due to a lack of funding. However, the Secretariat has today received funding from the Ministry of Finance to begin the marking. The Secretariat will embark on processing the examinations tomorrow,” Mr Deng said.
He urged candidates and their parents to be patient as the council works to complete the process.
“The Secretariat and all the selected teachers will begin processing the examination results. We will continue to engage with our colleagues in the Ministry of Finance to provide the resources to clear the bills of the field administration,” he said.
Mr Deng also highlighted outstanding costs, including exam printing and transportation to states, and appealed for understanding from stakeholders.
“I therefore take this opportunity to appeal to the parents, their candidates, and all stakeholders to bear with us as we engage the teachers in processing the examination results,” he added.
