The National Elections Commission (NEC) on Wednesday launched its official website to disseminate accurate information to the public about the general elections scheduled for December 2026.
Speaking at the function, NEC Chairperson Prof. Abednego Akok Kacuol described the unveiling of the website as a millstone and a means of connecting the commission with the international community.
He said the website, www.nec.gov.ss, will serve as a clearinghouse of information about key electoral preparations and NEC decisions and regulations as well as a way forward in line with the commission’s obligation of ensuring there is transparency in everything it does as all information will be posted and accessed on the website.
“We are excited to launch our website that will be a key channel for the public to receive accurate and up-to-date information regularly on electoral preparations.” Prof. Akok said. “With the launch of the website, we can now connect with the outside world because we also want to be transparent. That is the obligation of the commission.”
For his part, NEC Spokesperson George Lemi Stans said the website will ensure factual and timely communications on their activities.
“On behalf of the National Election Commission of the Republic of South Sudan, it is important to have a channel of communication where information is accessible and regularly updated from trustworthy sources,” he said.
According to Lemi, clear, credible, factual, and timely communication with the public is a cornerstone of the electoral process.
“This translates into a better-informed public and citizens who can base their decision and choice on correct, comprehensive, and reliable information,” he stated. “And with that, we are glad to launch the website of the National Election Commission, which will serve as the commission’s primary digital platform.”
The NEC mouthpiece revealed that the NEC website was developed with technical support from the United Nations.
“The public can learn more about the commission, its structure, mandate, function and responsibilities,” he said. “We invite members of the media to utilize this platform for regular and important news and updates and to support the work of the commission in raising the awareness of South Sudanese.”
Lemi said the website will continue providing the latest news and developments throughout all the stages of the electoral process and reiterated that the website will target segments of the public with varied degrees of knowledge pertaining to elections.
