Joseph Ngere Pachiko, Governor of South Sudan’s Amadi State says he is deeply concerned about the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation for nearly 200,000 civilians in the state.
Pachiko told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that nearly 200,000 villagers are facing dire humanitarian conditions due to shortages of food and other basic services in the state.
He pointed out that a large number of local residents left their homes after SPLA-IO troops entered their areas following fighting in July last year, forcing farmers to leave their farms.
“We have assessed the situation and we found out that the people have fled and left their belongings behind. Even they didn’t harvest their crops because they ran away after Riek Machar and his forces arrived in their areas,” said Pachiko.
The state official called on humanitarian organizations to provide aid assistance to the needy people as soon as possible.
