Nearly 100 Kala-azar cases recorded in Ulang: official

Kech Nguoth Tiem, the SPLM-IO appointed commissioner of Ulang County within the rebel-controlled 'Sobat State', located in what is otherwise known as Latjor State has reported rising cases of kala-azar disease in the area.

Speaking to radio Tamazuj yesterday, Commissioner Kech said that over 100 cases of the disease were recorded in Ulang County.

The SPLM-IO official raised concerns about the spread of Kala-azar disease in their areas, amid shortages of medicines. “People are dying of Kala-azar everyday, around 100 cases have been admitted to the clinic in the area,” said Kech.

He pointed out that three humanitarian organizations are operating in the area but the service provided is inadequate. The opposition member denied a previous statement made by the government-appointed commissioner of Ulang County who claimed that the area was stable.

Kech revealed that the government doesn’t have forces in Ulang County.
