Sudan’s presidential assistant Ibrahim Ghandour accused leaders of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-North (SPLA-North) of disrupting the peace process in South Kordofan State.
He accused the rebel leaders of using foreigners to achieve their goals, saying they looted the state’s resources and transferred them to their own bank accounts in South Sudan.
Addressing a crowd celebrating the National Congress Party (NCP) in Kadugli town, Ghandour said: “We have been calling upon the SPLA-North for peace for the sake of development and rehabilitation and development of South Kordofan citizens, but they only made use of foreigners to achieve their own interests.”
Ghandour, who is also the deputy NCP chairman, commended the people of South Kordofan for voting in the recent general elections despite attacks by the rebels, saying the move indicates that people of South Kordofan are aware of what is being done by the rebels.
The SPLA-North didn’t issue any official comment on Ghandour’s claims.
