Sudan’s ruling National Congress Party (NCP) has launched its campaign for the April elections in Babanusa town of West Kordofan State on Tuesday.

The campaign was attended by a large number woman and the Babanusa Locality Commissioner.

Sudan’s National Elections Commission (NEC) announced recently that the campaigning period for the April general elections started on 24 February and it will run until 10 April.

Nafie Ismail, an NCP candidate for the state legislative assembly, launched the rally at the NCP headquarters in Babanusa under the theme “Together for Development”.

Ismail told Radio Tamazuj that the competition is very tough, saying he will not underestimate his competitors from other political parties.

Meanwhile, Farouq Mohamed Hamad, member of the Democratic Unionist Party faction headed by Jalal Yusuf El Digair, accused the ruling party of reneging on a previous agreement with the other political parties participating in the elections.

The National Congress Party previously accepted to leave uncontested some geographical constituencies in Babanusa, according to Farouq.

He further accused the NCP party of using government vehicles for the campaigning.

Another opposition representative in the area Salah Mohamed reiterated this accusation, saying the government is using national resources in its campaign for elections while citizens need basic services. He added they are being prevented by the local authorities from organizing their own anti-election rallies.
