South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal State has received a four-month medical consignment from the national ministry of health to cater to the medical and health needs across the state.

The batch with essential medical drugs was unloaded in the state headquarters last week, according to local officials.

Last month, health authorities across the state reported an acute shortage of drugs and called for urgent intervention.

However, speaking to Radio Tamazuj last Friday, a senior health official in the state John Agany Deng confirmed that they had received a four-month medical consignment from the national government.

He said the medicine will be dispatched equally to all the five state counties.

“We have received our consignment, especially which will lead us up to January 2021. They are assorted drugs in several packages. These packages will reach all counties and health facilities in the counties,” he said.

According to Dr. Wol Wol Akeen, the director of Aweil Civil Hospital, the main referral hospital in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, said the last time they had received a medical consignment was in May 2020.
