Health officials in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state say they have received anti-venom drugs to treat the increasing cases of snakebites across the state as a result of flooding.

Health officials in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state say they have received anti-venom drugs to treat the increasing cases of snakebites across the state as a result of flooding.

The drugs are part of a consignment dispatched by the national ministry of health after a recent visit by the minister Elizabeth Achuei. 

John Agany Deng, senior staff at Northern Bahr el Ghazal State’s Ministry of Health said more than 10 people have died of snakebites in the state.

He confirmed that the drugs have been received and will be distributed across the state.

“It was last week on Friday we received 200 vials for antivenom from the national ministry of health. This was a request to the visiting minister of health, Achuei Yol. The community complained of the

deaths and increased cases," Agany said.

Wol Wol Akeen, the director of Aweil Civil Hospital said they are ready to treat patients following the receipt of the drugs.

Aweil North County health department said it obtained the medicines but transportation is yet to take place, vowing that it will immediately facilitate the transit of the new supply to rescue the lives of the affected locals.
