Northern Bahr el Ghazal HIV/AIDS Commission says the number of people living with HIV/AIDS in the state has gone up and the rate of infection continues to rise as new cases are recorded daily.
Addressing the press on Friday, the director of Northern Bahr el Ghazal HIV/AIDS Commission Garang Kuol Mabior said they started with just thirty patients in 2011 but now have more than 800 people registered and are receiving Antiretrival Therapy at the different centers across the state.
“Those who come to us at the testing centers, VCT, PMCT, we find that the number keep going up. You find that every day about 3 or 5 people test positive. This is very serious and it shows that in the coming days, the numbers will go up. The number of those taking medication is about 800 people,” he added.
Kuol further revealed that the commission and the World Health Organization will conduct voluntary testing in Aweil, Wanjok, Nyamlel and Gok Machar areas to gather new records.
