NBGS governor appoints 19 director generals

Northern Bahr-el-Ghazal State governor, Tong Akeen Ngor, on Wednesday last week, appointed 19 directors-general for state ministries, only one female.

Northern Bahr-el-Ghazal State governor, Tong Akeen Ngor, on Wednesday last week, appointed 19 directors-general for state ministries, one female and eighteen males.

Governor Akeen told Radio Tamazuj that he appointed the officers to do the work in various ministries and other government institutions, saying that full state government is expected to be appointed soon if the parties to the agreement conclude discussions on nominees.

“I have appointed directors-general to ease the administrative work. This happened yesterday and they were former directors-general in the now-defunct states and this one was the only woman who worked as director-general and for that reason, she was appointed not because of 35 percent,’’ the governor said.

Northern Bahr-el-Ghazal State Women Association slammed the government for appointing only one lady among the predominantly male officials, calling for more women representation in the upcoming government.

Elizabeth Ajok, the chairperson for Northern Bahr-el-Ghazal State Women Association and spouse to General Malog Awan, leader of South Sudan United Front (SSUF), urged the government to consider full women participation in the upcoming state government.

“In the remaining positions like the executive directors in the counties and also at the state ministries, we expected the government at least to fulfill 35 percent and even plus,” Ajok said. “Yes, I am expecting to see more females are ministers in the upcoming government at least five or six females in the government of Northern Bahr-el-Ghazal. That will also give women morale to support the government and work for peace and development of this nation because women are peacemakers and caretakers.’’
