The reporter of South Sudan's state television, Poth Johnson Matur has been released by national security officials on Saturday after spending five days in detention in Juba.
Poth, reporter of South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), was arrested on November 20 by security officials for allegedly commenting on other countries’ internal affairs on his Facebook page on November 14.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, Poth confirmed that he was released on Saturday by security officials without investigations. “I want to confirm that I was arrested by unidentified people,” he said.
A top security officer said earlier that Poth was arrested for accusing Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir of engaging regional actors to lobby for reunification of Sudan.
