National Security personnel investigated for illegal gun sales in Juba

Several members of South Sudan’s National Security Service are under investigation in Juba over allegations of stealing weapons from the Service and selling them to unknown buyers.

Several members of South Sudan’s National Security Service are under investigation in Juba over allegations of stealing weapons from the Service and selling them to unknown buyers.

Sources within the National Security Service said that recently a number of AK-47s have gone missing from their store, accusing junior officers of being behind the business. The officers said they are carrying out investigations to find out where the guns have gone.

The sources said that about 15 personnel are being investigated for suspected involvement in the business.

“It is now more than three weeks since the incident was noticed. The guns were found hidden under grass within the compound. When one officer who was coming for duty he realized that something was wrong in the store. A search was done and guns were found hidden under grass within our compound,” said one confidential source.

A number of the suspected personnel are currently behind bars.
