Two policemen and a civilian were accidentally shot by a national security officer in Bor town of Jonglei State on Tuesday, an official said.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, the state information minister, Atong Kuol Manyang said the incident occurred when the officer tried to disperse a group of gangsters engaged in fighting.

“There were celebrations in Bor. When people dispersed, gang groups from Ganyjatalent, West Coast, Ghetto Family and others started fighting along the road near Power Station, so when national security officers came to disperse them, they started attacking the officers,” Atong explained.

She added, “When one security officer fired bullets to defend himself, two policemen and one civilian were injured accidentally”.

The state minister, however, said the situation is now calm, but added that two suspected ringleaders of the group of gangs were arrested.

Atong urged Bor residents to cooperate with local authorities by providing information about any suspected criminals in the state.
