Finance and economic planning Minister in South Sudan has assembled a team tasked with a responsibility to manage and regulate cash expenditure for spending agencies and institutions in the government under President Salva Kiir.
The Minister of Finance and Planning Stephen Dhieu Dau has formed a cash management committee to regulate cash expenditure during which he disclosed that plans are underway to formulate a strong economy recovery programme for the country. He said that the economic recovery plan that Government is putting in place will be driven and owned by the country. The team, according to the ministerial order, will coordinate with other line ministries to streamline their work in order to respond to emerging economic challenges requiring full participation of all the citizens.
The team, whose formation was approved by the cabinet, will introduce budget debates and dialogue in order to accelerate business and commercial solutions prior to approving the national budget by parliament. Dhieu, according to the order, further added that the government remains committed to enhancing the credibility of the national budget by making it more transparent to the general citizens
The CMC will meet regularly to regulate cash expenditure, saving and borrowing to secure resources for smooth running of government institutions.
The committee will balance government expenditure with supply to efficient flow of the U.S. dollars to the market to limit the increase of local currency to maintain stable price in the country.
The eight member committee is led by Finance Minister Stephen Dhieu Dau himself as the chair. Other members include his deputy Mary Jervas as the deputy and Deputy Director of Account as secretary.The rest of the members will provide technical ideas and expertise in different capacities.
