Kamal Omar, head of the contentious issues committee within Sudan’s National Dialogue said that they disagreed on how to select a prime minister in the upcoming government, besides the parliamentary representation during a meeting held this week.
Kamal Omar, who is also a leading figure in the Sudanese opposition Popular Congress Party (PCP), told Radio Tamazuj that his committee has not yet reached an agreement on how to choose a prime minister.
He further said the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) wants the prime minister to be chosen by the president, while the opposition group within the dialogue talks of national consensus.
Kamal added that they also failed to agree on representation of political parties in the national parliament, saying the opposition group demands equal representation, but the ruling party rejected the idea.
The contentious issues will be referred to closing sessions of the National Dialogue on 10 October for voting, according to the opposition leader.
Bashir rejects dialogue outside Sudan
Separately, President Omar al-Bashir has reiterated his position rejecting any new platform for negotiation outside the country.
Addressing ground forces on Tuesday, President Bashir appeal to armed groups to join the peace process, saying the government will not allow any new initiative except the ongoing National Dialogue.
