The chairman of National Alliance of South Sudanese opposition parties and chairman of the Democratic Change Party, Lam Akol Ajawin says there is need for the government to commit to the resolutions of the recent IGAD Council of Ministers.

The East African regional bloc has called for the withdrawal of troops from Juba in preparation for the formation of the Transitional Government of National Unity (TGoNU) in South Sudan.

Akol revealed that they participated in a meeting called by president Salva Kiir on Friday involving opposition parties, government-linked parties and the SPLM Former Detainees to discuss ways of forming the transitional government.

He said they have urged Kiir to commit to the recent IGAD Council of Ministers resolution calling for the withdrawal of troops from Juba for the formation of the transitional government as a first step toward the implement of the peace agreement.

On the issue of 28 states, Akol pointed out that the IGAD communiqué called for the postponement of the work of the transitional constitutional amendment committee until after the formation of the transitional government and to discuss the contentious issues within a month.
