The opposition National Salvation Front (NAS) led by General Thomas Cirillo has accused the SSPDF and SPLA-IO of attacking its positions in Kajo-Keji County of Central Equatoria State.
In a statement extended to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday last week, NAS said a combined force of SSPDF and SPLA-IO attacked its positions in Kig’wo.
“On Thursday, 13 August 2020, a combined force of SSPDF and SPLA-IO carried out an attack against NAS positions in Kajo-Keji County. The attack took place at a place called Kig’wo, approximately 20 kilometres to Kajo-Keji town,” the statement reads in part.
“In a separate development, on 12 August 2020, the SSPDF convoy of 10 vehicles from the artillery unit was dispatched to Pageri and Lobonok respectively. This build-up is to reinforce the enemy in these locations in preparation for the planned offensive against NAS bases,” it added.
NAS reiterated its commitment to the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement signed in December 2017 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and the Rome Declaration signed in January 2020 in Italy.
“NAS, however, reserves the right to self-defence,” it stressed.
The SSPDF and SPLA-IO spokespersons could not immediately be reached for comment.
