A local official has accused the opposition National Salvation Front (NAS) led by Gen. Thomas Cirillo of looting civilians’ properties on the road between Maridi and Munduri West counties of Western Equatoria State on Monday.

Benjamin Ryembe, the Secretary General of the now defunct Maridi State, told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that the opposition forces looted civilian’s properties in Rasul area before they were repulsed by government troops.

He urged the holdout opposition group to adhere to the cessation of hostilities agreement signed by the parties in December 2017.

For his part, NAS spokesperson Suba Samuel Manase denied their involvement in the incident saying NAS forces are not in that area.

He further said looting of civilians’ properties is against principles of the armed opposition group led by Gen. Thomas Cirillo.

The armed opposition group, which was not a party to the September 2018 revitalized peace agreement, signed a truce agreement with the government in Rome on 12 January, 2020.
