Local authorities in South Sudan’s proposed Namurnyang state in Eastern Equatoria have complained of difficult living conditions in the area and an alarming rise in the prices of goods.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Josephine Nakuru, Minister of Information in Namurnyang State, said that living conditions in the area are deteriorating and hunger is threatening the population. She blamed a poor agricultural season and that was caused by a lack of rain.

Price increases of basic goods were also alarming she added, saying that a sack of flour has risen to 2500 SSP and a jerrycan of cooking oil has reached 190 SSP.

Public workers have not received their salary since August, she added.
