Nafie Ali Nafie, presidential assistant to Omar al-Bashir, has stated that the Sudanese government will continue to facilitate the provision of humanitarian aid to people throughout Sudan without compromising Sudan’s security or sovereignty.

This statement came at a meeting with the Norwegian Special Envoy for Sudan and South Sudan, Endre Stiansen, in Oslo.  Ibrahim Ghandour, head of the foreign affairs in the National Congress Party, confirmed that the meeting discussed humanitarian issuesin relation to the situation in South Kordofan and Blue Nile states.

Nafie reiterated Sudan’s commitment to signed humanitarian agreements sponsored by the United Nations, African Union and the Arab League, claiming that the Sudanese national organizations are operating effectively in this area.

Humanitarian access has been denied to many international organisations attempting to assist those displaced within South Kordofan and Blue Nile states as a result of ongoing conflict between rebel group SPLM-N and the Sudanese government.
