N. Bahr el Ghazal State to launch Covid-19 vaccination campaign on Saturday

The health ministry in South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal State announced on Friday that the vaccination campaign against Coronavirus is expected to begin officially on Saturday.

The health ministry in South Sudan's Northern Bahr el Ghazal State announced on Friday that the vaccination campaign against Coronavirus is expected to begin officially on Saturday.

A team of medics was dispatched to neighboring Western Bahr el Ghazal State for a three-day training on handlings and administering the vaccines after the reception of 2,500 dozes of the AstraZeneca vaccines last week.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, the state minister of health Dau Riiny Lual confirmed that the vaccination will begin on Saturday at only one center, the Aweil Civil Hospital.

“The vaccination shall be on Saturday and the trained health cadres are around 10 to 8 and we have only one identified center by the national ministry of health which is Aweil Civil Hospital where the vaccination starts and maybe in the second round it will reach the counties,’’ the minister said.

Riiny urged all health workers and the public to turn out in large numbers to receive their first jabs on Saturday.

“At first it was proposed that health workers shall be vaccinated first but authorities in Juba have realized that the vaccines get expired in many places such as Juba and other places in South Sudan, so they are now allowing everybody to be vaccinated,” he pointed out.

William Deng, a health worker who attended the training said they are ready to administer the vaccines.
