The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) Party office in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State held a political update meeting on Monday and declared that its members are ready for the elections slated for December 2024.
The meeting held in Aweil Town was attended by over 400 party members and supporters, in preparation for the elections.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday morning, the SPLM Party’s Assistant Secretary for Information in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, William Wek Nyang, explained that the meeting aimed to recommit party members to current and upcoming political processes in the country.
“The SPLM political update meeting brought together members from payams and bomas to provide political orientation. It had been a long time since the last meeting and it was necessary to discuss our progress on ongoing activities. Over 400 party supporters attended,” Wek said. “The SPLM is fully prepared for the 2024 general elections. I want listeners to know that the elections are confirmed, and we are ready as a party to support our president, Salva Kiir Mayardit, and any candidates proposed for the governorship or other positions.”
He expressed confidence in a successful outcome for his party.
A SPLA Party member who preferred anonymity disclosed that the National Election Commission (NEC) chairperson met with them in April to inform them about election preparations.
“The head of the NEC visited Northern Bahr el Ghazal State last month and confirmed that the elections will be held on a fixed date,” he stated. “We are now preparing and awaiting information from the state’s High Election Committee.”
