Health authorities in South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal State have rolled out the second Covid-19 vaccination campaign on Monday, targeting about 3,000 people.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, the Director-General in the state health ministry, Dr. Aleu Pioth Akot, said the campaign targets those who had their first jabs and will run for 14 days.

“We have increased the number of people to be vaccinated to 2,864 especially people who took their first-round doses and after some few numbers of people will be allowed to be vaccinated for the first time," he said.

Dr. Pioth said that vaccinations will only be done at the Aweil Civil Hospital.

Kenyang Thiik Akol, who is among the people who received their first jabs in June, said he received his second dose on Monday and called on the people of Aweil to turn up for the exercise which he said was safe.

"Yeah, I have taken my jab. I am feeling good now. There is no bad effect I have. We went there together with my colleagues and the number has increased," he said.

The doses are part of the country's second consignment of more than 59,000 AstraZeneca vaccines from the global vaccine distribution mechanism, the COVAX facility.
