Police in South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal State said they are holding two suspects linked to the murder of two Sudanese pastoralists on Sunday.
Clashes between Sudanese pastoralists and local hunters in Nyinbuoli area resulted in the killing of two Rizeigat tribesmen, while two hunters from Dinka Malual community sustained injuries.
Major General James Simon, the police commissioner of the defunct Lol State, told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that the suspects are currently in police custody as investigations into the matter continue.
“The two suspects have been arrested pending investigations. The security situation is calm and the matter will be addressed amicably between Dinka Malual and Rizeigat communities,” he said.
The senior police officer further said peace committees from both sides will meet to agree on how to resolve the issue.
Typically the Sudanese herders migrate seasonally into South Sudan with their cattle.
