Police authorities in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State have detained and are investigating three people suspected of killing a young woman on Friday last week.
According to the police, 23-year-old Akuch Angony Buk, lifeless body was picked from an old and deserted building in the Makuach-Awiit residential area and taken to Aweil Civil Hospital where doctors concluded that she died of strangulation.
Capt. Guot Guot Akol, the spokesman for Northern Bahr-el-Ghazal State police told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that they detained three suspects after the dead body was recovered.
“On 21 May in the morning hours, a dead body was found in Makuach-Awiit residential area and it was identified later as Akuch Angony Buk, a 23-year-old woman and it was taken to the hospital where medical checkup proved that she had a broken neck. This confirmed that she was killed by unknown people and due to that procedure, three suspects were arrested, two men and a woman whom she spent most nights with,” Capt. Guot said.
Santino Dut Chol, a resident of the Makuach-Awiit suburb said they were astonished by the news after the dead body was found in an old building near their farm. He denied that the deceased resided in the area.
According to Dut, the deceased was said to have abandoned her three children and joined criminal groups in the Naivasha area who might have raped and killed her.
“The venue where the dead body was found is not far from here. It is the place we are standing now. We were cultivating here on my farm and when we came back the following morning around 9 or 10 she was found dead in this building. The police and military personnel came and took the body,’’ said Dut.
He added, “She was never a resident of this area. Some people say she abandoned her three children in the Naivasha residential area and decided to join criminals and other people say she was raped and killed by criminals who then threw her body here.”
The representative of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Women General Association, Awut Kuel Kuel, known locally as Awut Makol, condemned the killing and urged the government to protect citizens’ lives.
“Of course, such an incident is not good, citizens are protected by the government and there is no reason that person is killed and perpetrators are not arrested. This thing brings fear among the communities and women,’’ Kuel said.
