The police in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State have said they have apprehended three suspects in connection with the murder of a man on Monday night.
Deng Dut Nuo, 35, was stabbed to death while walking in Aweil Town’s Tiit Agok suburb at 9 pm on Monday.
The state’s police commissioner, Major General Madut Philp Tong, told Radio Tamazuj Wednesday morning that three suspects were arrested on Tuesday, while another suspect is still at large.
“We have arrested three suspects and we are still hunting another one. These criminals are in their 19s and 20s,” he said. “I will not give you their full details as of now because investigations are ongoing and I am only directed to apprehend the accused. All information will be disclosed after we receive a report from the Attorney General.”
Meanwhile, Aweil Town Mayor Garang Deng Diing has warned the public to cease what he described as hustling during the night.
“We are approaching the festive season and people need to be cautioned,” he said. “As municipal authorities, we earlier warned people, especially the young people, not to hustle at night from 8 pm to 10 pm. We need everybody to respect themselves and allow the organized forces to perform their duties.”
On his part, Santino Deng Ngong, the executive director of The Aweil Community Based Organizations Forum (ACBOF), commended the police and other security organs for maintaining law and order.
“As civil society, we are thankful to the government of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, especially the police because this is not the first time such crimes are happening in the State,” he said. “The police are always trying their best to maintain security.”
