The clerk to the Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Parliament, Francis Makol Mou, died in a grisly road crash while riding between the Aweil East County and Aweil town, the traffic police confirmed on Monday.
Maj. Gen. Nhial Nhial, the Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Traffic Police Director, told Radio Tamazuj that Mou died after his motorbike was hit by a truck forcing him to collide with other riders on Sunday.
“At around 6 p.m. on Sunday, the Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Legislative Assembly Clerk, Francis Makol Mou, was involved in a traffic accident and he was knocked by a truck that threw him on another motorbike and he fell dead.,” he stated. “When we took the body for postmortem, it was declared that he died from a neck fracture.”
According to the traffic police boss, two other victims of the accident are hospitalized at the Aweil Civil Hospital while two others were detained by police to help with investigations.
Meanwhile, Garang Kuol Mabior, the head of the information committee in the state parliament, said that the House announced a three-day mourning period and suspended its daily sessions and other activities.
“We have already sent condolence messages to the people of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State on behalf of the government, his community, and family. We know that what happened is a great tragedy and we, the MPs, are suspending our normal activities to mourn him and will resume activities on Friday,” he said.
The deceased graduated from Bahr el Ghazal University’s Faculty of Economics in 2012 after which he joined the parliament and worked in various capacities.
Mou who hailed from Aweil East County has been described by many as, “a kindhearted man”. He left behind two widows and several children.
