The governor of South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Tong Akeen Ngor, Tuesday swore in the new Aweil Town mayor Zackaria Dut Mou and the deputy mayor for planning, Charles Malong Anyuon.
Governor Akeen sacked Garang Deng Diing and Anei Wal Achien from their posts as mayor and deputy mayor respectively on Monday.
“In the beginning, I want to congratulate you Lordship town mayor and the deputy mayor for accepting the assignment,” he said. “I want to say congratulations to the former officials because they have done their part and have achieved what they were assigned and I say to the new officials that God may support you so that you can perform better.”
Akeen tasked the new officials to prioritize land disputes and promote peace among communities in the town.
Dut, the new mayor, vowed to clean and renovate roads within the town.
“I want to inform the people of Aweil that I will deliver small development in my capacity, they also wish me to maintain general cleanliness because the lack of proper hygiene causes a lot of diseases to the people and that is the reason I came to power,” said Dut. “I have seen a few of the roads here are rough. From tomorrow and after tomorrow, I am going to renovate the roads and I hope the people will collaborate in the improvement of roads.”
