The governor of South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal State on Monday swore in three ministers, the chairperson of the state relief and rehabilitation commission, a member of the HIV/AIDs commission, and the Aweil West County commissioner.
The new government officials were seconded by Sudan’s People Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) to take part in the state government.
These officials were all appointed by President Salva Kiir two weeks ago.
The six include the minister of Local Government Deng Liai, Minister of Parliamentarian Affairs Lual Lual Agou, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Bol Akuar Gamar, the chairperson for Relief and Rehabilitation Commission Dut Majokdit, a member of the HIV/AIDS Commission Akur Mou Liai and the Commissioner of Aweil West County Majok Piol Mayen.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj shortly after the event, the state cabinet affairs minister Sebastiano Uchan said all six new governments came from the SPLM-IO.
“The officials who took the oath of office today are all from the I-O which changed its officials with the new face. There are three ministers: minister of parliamentarian affairs, minister of local government and minister of youth and sports,’’ said Uchan. “Plus Chairperson for Relief and Rehabilitation Commission and member of HIV/AIDS and County commissioner of Aweil West were all sworn in today and the government is complete as of today.”
Dut Majokdit Nyikok, the newly appointed chairperson for the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, appreciated First Vice President and leader of SPLM-IO Dr. Riek Machar for having recommended him for the post
“Well, I am so excited today for having been sworn in as chairperson for the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission for Northern Bahr el Ghazal State,” said Majokdit. “First of all I want to thank His Excellency the First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny for the trust that he bestowed upon me to be appointed by the president of the Republic as chairperson for Relief and Rehabilitation Commission, I appreciate and accept the appointment with no doubt.”
