N. Bahr el Ghazal governor establishes new municipality, appoints mayor

South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal State governor, Tong Akeen Ngor last week issued two separate decrees; one for the establishment of Majok Nyinthiou municipality and another for the appointments of the mayor and two deputies.

South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal State governor, Tong Akeen Ngor last week issued two separate decrees; one for the establishment of Majok Nyinthiou municipality and another for the appointments of the mayor and two deputies.

Majok Nyinthiou is a border trade zone in Aweil East County that connects the people of South Sudan's Northern Bahr el Ghazal State and Sudan's Western Kordofan State.

Governor Akeen appointed Anei Akoon as the Municipal Council Mayor, Andrew Wieu as first Deputy, and Abuk Aleu as deputy for administration and finance.

“It is true. I have to confirm that the orders were issued by the governor and those orders of course are based on constitutional powers for the state governor to establish administrative areas and appoint officials. He had already made the appointment of three people; the town mayor and two deputies," the state information minister Abraham Wol Komhe told Radio Tamazuj on Sunday. "That was the choice of the leadership to decree Majok Nyinthiou as a municipality in Aweil East County, he (governor) knows why he chose Majok although we have Warawar and other areas which are supposed to be established as municipalities.’’

Abraham Aluk Dut, a resident of Majok Nyinthiou warmly welcomed the order and said the town will bring development and peace to the border States of West Kordufan and Northern Bahr el Ghazal.
