The newly appointed Northern Bahr el Ghazal state revenue authority commissioner-general Garang Deng Akuei and his deputy Albino Deng Tong took the oath of office on Monday after their appointment by Governor Tong Akeen last Friday.

Garang Deng served as the deputy commissioner-general for administration and finance in the Northern Bahr el Ghazal state government before his appointment.

The appointments come months after the former revenue authority boss, Michael Akol Wek resigned from office, protesting micromanagement by the state minister of finance, Andrew Lual Buola.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj after the swearing-in ceremony, the state cabinet affairs minister Sebastiano Uchan urged the two officials to work for the benefit of the people of Northern Bahr el Ghazal state.

"We just had the swearing-in ceremony of the commissioner-general and his deputy. The aim is that we need to be prepared and implement the state strategies well as a coalition government. Without the two officials, there will be a lot of mess, but their presence makes the workflow,” said Uchan. “My message is that let us put Aweil and its people above all, work as people of South Sudan and Northern Bahr el Ghazal in particular.”

For his part, the new commissioner-general Garang Deng said he would do his best to execute the mandate of the commission.

“Since we were appointed in January 2021, I was a deputy for administration and finance at the state revenue authority and my former commissioner-general decided to leave the office and I was left acting. This institution needs someone to be patient, friendly, and work as a team,” he said.

The state deputy commissioner-general Albino Deng Tong assured the public that he would cooperate with colleagues in the office to ensure that citizens are served successfully.
