The caretaker governor of South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal state Akot Deng Akot has welcomed his dismissal from the post without new assignment.
Akot is one of three current governors dismissed by President Salva Kiir who has not been reappointed as leader of one of the newly established 28 states. The others two left without a position are Matur Chur Dhuol of Lakes and John Kong Nyuon of Jonglei.
Akot thanked the president for the period he served as caretaker governor for the state and said he would be willing to serve in other capacities.
“I welcome the decision of the president and congratulate my colleagues who have been appointed as new governors either for Lol state, Aweil state or Aweil East state,” he said. “I also want to thank the president for the trust he gave me to serve the people of greater Aweil as their caretaker governor. I knew from the day I was appointed that there would be changes because this is how government functions.”
Kiir appointed Akot as caretaker governor after dismissing his predecessor Kuel Aguer Kuel.
