N Bahr el Ghazal assembly swears in new chief whip

Aguer Wol Aguer was sworn in as the new chief whip of the Northern Bahr el Ghazal state Legislative Assembly Wednesday.

Aguer told Radio Tamazuj that he was happy for his selection and vowed to cooperate with state lawmakers and government.

Caretaker governor Akot Deng Akot urged Aguer to work hand in hand in helping lawmakers legislate for the state.

He said he appreciated the members of state parliament for recommending the new chief whip, and called upon their support for his Government.

Assembly speaker Makau Ayok acknowledged the efforts of the former government chief whip Benson Upuothmalou and wished Aguer to uphold the same service for the sake of Northern Bahr el Ghazal people.

Makau told Radio Tamzuj he appreciated the governor for his trust in appointing Aguer and insisted that the change was normal and not politicized.

Benson Upuothmalou was removed a few months ago. He was an ally of former governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal state, Kuel Aguer Kuel, who was ousted earlier this year following a power struggle with supporters of the current governor and his ally, SPLA chief of staff Paul Malong.
