N Bahr al Ghazal shortage of goods as Sudan border closed

Northern Bahr al Ghazal State in South Sudan is reportedly experiencing a serious economic crisis amid complaints about shortages of commodities at markets.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, several residents expressed discontent about the deteriorating living conditions in the state.

They blamed the economic crisis on the government for failing to bring an end to the ongoing conflict.

Press Secretary of the State Governor Angelo Wol Mawen acknowledged the deteriorating living condition in the state, pointing to the lack of consumer goods at the market after a partial closure of the border with Sudan due to the country's ongoing elections.

Wol said the state government is working to rescue the situation by providing food in the state soon.

Northern Bahr al Ghazal's economic situation has deteriorated alongside political unrest there due to a power struggle within the state's ruling party.

President Kiir issued a decree yesterday abruptly sacking the Northern Bahr al Ghazal Caretaker Governor Kuel Aguer Kuel, who has been in a dispute with the National Army's Chief of General Staff Paul Malong, the former governor who remains the chairman of the SPLM party in the state.

Presidential secretary Ateny Wek Ateny told Radio Tamazuj the president had previously been busy with the crisis facing the country at large.
